Mailing to ushers from Chester C. Scholl, usher-in-chief and president of the Chicago Sunday School Association. The planning staff intended to recruit 1,500 volunteers from churches and Christian organizations to serve as ushers. This mailing from the leader of the ushers included 1) a letter encouraging ushers to build support for the rally in every organization they belonged to, 2) a list of instructions sent to section leaders, 3) a promotional card ushers could use to invite friends and acquaintances, 4) an usher’s pass, and 5) a pledge to be filled out and signed, making a commitment to serve as an usher. Similar mailings went out to the thousands who served in the choir and band. From the Papers of Torrey Johnson, Collection 285, box 27, folder 14.
